How We Use The Horses
The CaliCos Method
Equine Facts:
Horses respond to pressure (physical, non-physical, verbal, non-verbal).
Horses live in herds. There is an alpha horse in each herd.
Horses are animals of prey. Horses are fight or flight
animals.
Horses
have a mind of their own.
Whether we are using
Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, Equine-Assisted Learning, or Equine-Assisted Activities with an individual
the horses will respond to the individual’s behaviors / actions. The Equine Specialist (ES) will identify
behaviors in the horse(s) or herd. In EAP and EAL the Mental Health Professional (MH) will assist the client
in drawing metaphors between the horse’s behaviors and the individual’s behaviors. Once behaviors
are acknowledged by the individual, changes within the individual can begin to occur.
