Calicos Haven, Inc., is an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) corporation devoted to our community, espe-cially our youth, by partnering with mental health professionals to pro- vide individualized confidential equine~ and other animal~assisted activities to facilitate a client to experientially "process" their be-havior. This "process" allows the client to assess their actions and the effects of their actions on their environment thereby bringing about change.            

           Our Objective...

   Our objective is to provide an alternative therapeutic technique to individuals and families in this region, including at-risk youth, for which the industry-standard thera-peutic counseling and treatments may not be effective. 

   Using horses in psycho-therapeutic sessions is an innovative technique used for experiential learning for individuals and fami-lies.  The concept was adopted in 1998 by a non-profit organization, Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA), which now provides the education for and maintains the ethical and professional standards by which this type of therapy is conducted.  As horses mirror our behavior and can seemingly read our inner feelings, they provide the most effective form of experiential learning in a controlled setting.
